Aims & Objectives
- To orient deaf immigrants and refugees about the U.S. systems and how to acclimate to its culture and live as good citizens in society. We have a diverse group of leaders who relocated to the United States, work in our organization, and can empathize and understand others.
- To instruct deaf immigrants and refugees in basic English so they can read and write without relying on others.
- To instruct deaf immigrants, BIPOC parents who have deaf children, and any motivators in American Sign Language basics so they can communicate with others without barriers.
- To research and find resources and services such as jobs, job training, utilities, rent, housing programs, and school options to meet the clients’ needs or refer them to the right authorized department for any help they seek.
- To use workshops or conferences to educate hearing people of color about deaf ways, deaf cultures, and job opportunities. The aim is to increase the number of BIPOC American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters to work with the diversity of deaf people in any field.
- To orient BIPOC Kids Of Deaf Adults (KODAs) and Children Of Deaf Adults (CODAs) about deaf cultures, sign language programs, volunteer opportunities, and job opportunities through Summer Camp.
- To orient police officers on ADA laws, deaf immigrants’ cultures, and deaf-born Americans’ cultures. To ensure that police officers approach them with respect for human rights and provide them with the right access to communicate without miscommunication or misunderstanding. Police officers are encouraged to learn ASL basics to communicate and understand them during incidents.
- Both inside and outside the United States of America, volunteers and interns are welcome to join us and have fun.
- We outreach to the community to educate hearing people about our services and workshops.
- USBAD seeks grants to increase the number of employment opportunities for the deaf by fundraising to support deaf clients who are motivated to become Certified Nursing Aides (C.N.A.) and Certified Deaf Interpreters (C.D.I.).
- Deaf African-Americans gather for a conference yearly to contribute useful ideas, share their encounters, and perspectives related to access to education, discrimination, cultural conflicts, and oppression by their families. It aims to improve and bring positive change for the coming generation of deaf youth.
- To seek grants to support brilliant deaf students from international locations to come here for either short course studies such as ASL interpreting programs or further studies at the university.
